Company Profile
Caliper Life Sciences uses its advanced liquid handling
and LabChip technologies to
create leading edge tools for the life science industry.
CaliperLS provides a fully
integrated suite of automated liquid handling and microfluidics
products designed
to help researchers make better choices earlier in their
drug discovery process, as
well as tools that are designed to increase the general
speed and efficiency of their
high-throughput screening efforts. Our pharmaceutical customers,
who include scientists
from many of the largest pharmaceutical, biotechnology,
and life sciences
companies throughout the world, report that using CaliperLS
systems such as the
Allegro ultra-high throughput screening system has resulted
in the emergence of
35 viable drug candidates from their drug discovery pipelines.
Users of the new
microfluidic screening system, the LabChip 3000, state that
the precision of the data
produced allows them to identify structure-activity relationships
directly, cutting 6-
9 months from the discovery cycle.
With the recent advances in genomics research and subsequent
surge of interest in
protein functionality there is an increased industry need
for high throughput, cost
efficient tools for automating the multiple steps required
by conventional gel electrophoresis.
The LabChip 90 Automated Electrophoresis System addresses
this need
by rapidly analyzing the size and concentration of DNA or
protein samples directly
from a microtiter plate.
Company History
Created from the combination of Caliper Technologies with
Zymark Corporation in
mid 2003, Caliper was launched under its new name, Caliper
Life Sciences, in
January of 2004. Zymark was founded in 1981 as a custom
robotics company. By
1999, with the acquisition of Scitec, it had established
itself as a major liquid handling
supplier to the drug discovery market. Caliper Technologies
was founded in
1995 with the vision of miniaturizing laboratory processes.
Through collaboration
with Agilent, the first commercial microfluidics product,
the 2100 Bioanalyzer, was
launched in 1998. Caliper manufactures over one-half million
LabChip consumables
per year for this Agilent system, which is used for rapid
DNA, RNA and protein sizing.
With over 2000 systems installed worldwide, the 2100 Bioanalyzer
is now an
established component of many genomics and proteomics laboratories
today.
Caliper Life Sciences will use its expertise in liquid handling
and automation coupled
with the precision of results obtained through microfluidic
technologies to
provide state-of-the-art systems to drive efficiency in
the life science research laboratory
and remove bottlenecks within the entire drug development
pipeline, rather
than just shifting them from one place to another.
Caliper- A Global Infrastructure of
Offices and Support
Caliper is headquartered in Hopkinton, MA with R&D facilities
in California and a

Our sales partners around the world complete the Sias team.
Hombrechtikon is an area rich in resources and expertise
in robotic technology and is the home of our development
and production facility. Sias is an active and founding
member of “Toolpoint” – a group making
convenient links between local industry, institutes of education
and financial groups, with the aim to combine skill and
expertise to address common issues and to ultimately improve
the business relations of its local member organisations.
Sias is a dedicated and skilled partner to help you realise
your automation projects efficiently and cost effectively.
Xiril AG was founded in 2001 by a team of experts with
more than 22 years liquid handling experience who are committed
to the development of automated systems for Life Science
and Diagnostic applications. Product development began in
Spring 2002 and the first instruments were launched in October
2002. Xiril Robotic Workstations are the long-awaited solution
for the mid- to low-end pipetting markets where bench space
is often costly and limited.
Xiril AG is based in the pipetting valley of Hombrechtikon,
Switzerland and is represented across the globe with subsidiaries
in US and Italy and a distribution network that covers Austria,
